12 Days of Christmas Ideas Day 3 Rustic Farmhouse Funnel

12 Days of Christmas Rustic Farmhouse Funnel

It is always fun to dig around in my junk bins--those containers where I collect and save rusty bits and pieces that I can't seem to let go of. I recently found (or re-found) four. old, rusty funnels that I have picked up from garage sales or thrift stores. I think I was collecting them for a funnel tree--stacked, upside down funnels.

But, then I had another idea...

Eight years ago I made this fall funnel HERE that still hangs on my porch for autumn. I decided to use the funnels for a Christmas wall hanging with a rustic farmhouse feel. I decided to make something similar, but for Christmas.

I cut old fence boards into 14" lengths. I brushed on a little white paint.

I sanded the paint off a bit and added picture hanging wire to the back. Drill a hole in the funnel and then use a single screw to attach it to the board. I did slightly flatten the funnels.

After attaching the funnels, I applied Wise Owl Furniture Salve--it protects and brings out the beauty in the wood AND the metal. You can buy it from my friend TINA HERE.

I added Christmas greenery to each funnel. HINT--it is less expensive to buy garland and use wire cutters to clip it into the size piece you need. I like the log needle variety. I used the garland pieces for filler and added one Christmas pick to each funnel. I squeezed a bunch of hot glue into the funnel and held the greenery in place.

Hot glue ribbon or twine around the lip of the funnel.

Using bits of an old yardstick, I made a tag by handpainting JOY or NOEL. Drill a hole in the tag and use twine to add it to the funnel. I set the knot and tag off-center.

Each funnel is a little different. They look fantastic hanging on a picket fence in farmhouse Christmas front porch decorations. It would be cute hanging on a front door or on a small wall space or propped on a mantel.
