Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall

I know, you are expecting to see abeautiful mudroom. Aint gonna happen today--I just got home --unexpected happenings today, all good though. Thought I'd show you the mirrors on my daughter's wall. The coloring on this pic is horrible. Teenage son is taking a photography class and keeps messing with my camera and I don't know how to "unmess" it.

I collected these hand mirrors for a few months. I refused to pay more than $5 for each mirror--most were bought for $2. I wrapped ribbon around the handles and used a few dots of hot glue to secure it. They look like they need a cleaning--better go do that. Look for the mudroom tomorrow or Wednesday.
Also, I must apologize to sweet Jennifer at Momma Made It Look Easy (don't you love that blog name?) who gave me this great award a few weeks back for being an inspiration. How sweet --thanks Jen--you made my day then and again now Ü. Please visit her great blog and leave her a note. I love her random thoughts posts on Tuesdays.

I Can't Believe I Am Showing You This

So, here is the ugly truth--my mudroom is a disaster. Honestly, it is usually not this bad, but has been neglected the past month due to being sick. This week I decided to tackle it and restructure and find some better solutions that will work.

My husband built this locker system. I envisioned my kids sitting in each little cubby to put their shoes on. Instead they became horizontal surfaces that hold junk, so now it is in the garage holding sporting goods.

And the shoes--shoes, shoes, shoes everywhere--one of the pitfalls of not allowing the kids to walk on the carpet with their shoes on.

I hope to show you the finished room by Monday. I am trying to do this without spending money, using what I have or building it. Wish me luck!

Trick-or-Treat

Happy Halloween. Busy day, still coughing, thrilled to get an extra hour of sleep tonight! Here is the only trick-or-treater in my house this year. I made this Twister costume for the sweet girl. Very easy--I sewed it but you could use colored duct tape to put it together too.

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner

Look at these adorable jack-o-lantern gourds I won from Snowman Hill. Aren't they adorable? Check out their blog!

I also have been blessed to receive a couple of fun awards. This one from Junk-It Junction:

And this great one from Room Remix:

Please check these wonderful ladies out! I have a hard time passing these on, because I love you all. So instead, do me a favor and comment on 5 people's blogs today--make someone's day a little brighter. Thanks!

Here is a little shelf I made from a lonely drawer, some scrap wood, and some scrapbook paper. Very quick and easy!

Painted Pumpkins

Thanks for all of your well wishes and sweet comments on my wreath and blog.

So for these I started with your basic fake pumpkins, spray painted them with oiled bronze spray paint. It was too black-- I dry-brushed bronze craft paint over the top and then added details in cream. I think my address pumpkins need a little vine or something around them, but it has to be good looking, nothing too fake.

PS--All of a sudden my pictures show up as HTML code when I am typing up my post and my font is different, but it all posts fine. Anyone know why and how to change it back? Thanks!

Fall Wreath

fall wreath at Beyond The Picket Fencehttp://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/2009/10/fall-wreath.html

Restlessness got the best of me. I scrounged up some old stuff to make this fall wreath. I liked the silver platter in the middle, it reflects the light well.

Oink Oink--Be Back Soon!

Swine flu has hit our house and schools. Hubby, teenage son, I have it. Hubby and I have milder cases, but uhg, the cough! Stay tuned... (This is showing up in different font--won't let me change it, too sick to care Ü.)

Now daughter has it too! The aches are the worse part! Hubby and teenager doing better.

Starting to Look Like Fall

I am slowly getting a little fall decorating done. I wanted to add pops of burnt orange to my blue and brown color scheme that lives in my family room. I used the orange spray paint on this candlestick and plaque thingy. I couldn’t find a burnt orange, so just used the bright orange and then put stain over the top. Some of the orange rubbed off on the candlestick and the original gold popped through, which I liked. The brown ceramic pumpkin came from Ross for $2.99.

I still want to paint the thrift store vase a more sea blue, but couldn’t find a spray paint in that color. However, I did just find one at Michaels yesterday, but I was too cheap to buy it at full price, so I am waiting for a coupon. I added the little pumpkins around the lamp. Today, maybe, I am working on painting some fake pumpkins. Hope to show those to you soon. BTW—I decided to go with chalkboard paint on my wine rack, thanks all for the suggestion. I haven’t done it yet though. Happy fall! I might be ready to decorate for Christmas soon, we have already had snow and are supposed to get 2-5 inches Sunday and Monday—argh!
