I used plywood (sand well to avoid splinters) and 2x4's, some paint colors I love, stain.
I had to think a bit about the construction of this, mechanically minded I am not. I am so sorry I do not stop and grab my camera when I am in the process--I just get in the zone. I will try to explain it: I screwed down through the top of each square plywood into the 2x4's, making sure to countersink the screws. I then stacked them and drilled through the 2x4 at an angle on the inside--if you look closely you can see the screws. There is a probably a better way to do this, but this is what worked for me.
I added some wheels, some feet would work too, but I liked the industrial look the wheels gave it.

Found this on pinterest & just have to say I think it's an incredible idea!!! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDid you stain the wood first, then paint white or color over the top of the stain and wipe off?
ReplyDeleteThis would be an awesome storage unit for scrapbook paper and craft books!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm seeing 2 of these in my future. One as side table that will be great for storage. One a little bigger to hold my scrapbook Iris totes that won't fit in my cube shelves.
ReplyDeleteI am currently in the process of making this storage end table. I have some questions though. How did you attach the shelves and plywood together? I can't understand how to attach the middle shelves.
ReplyDeleteWow...you have so inspired me! This is awesome. Beautiful, functional, artistic furniture that is cheap! I am an art teacher and planning on making a few of these for storing my students' art! Thanks for the motivation!
ReplyDeleteOh wow Becky!!! It's beyond fantastic!
ReplyDeleteDee
How did you get the distressed look on the wood?
ReplyDeleteWhat size are the plywood pieces?
ReplyDeleteI love this so much and will definitely be recruiting my husband to help!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! We are moving into a teeeeeeny, tiny house next week and I need to come up with some very seriously efficient storage solutions quickly and inexpensively! Thank you for sharing this!

ReplyDeleteAWESOME!
ReplyDeleteHi Becky, I've been trying to come up with a plan for something to contain and organize my daughter's artwork. Someone shared your rolling cart on FB this morning, and I had that "aha!" moment. I didn't want an ugly plastic generic looking system, and something like this would be perfect. Only she might need about 10 of them : ) Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHow did you create the distressed look? Did you sand after you painted?
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me to make my own to hold my husband's fishing tackle.

Thanks for the great post!
I really admire your magazine storage table. I think I will try to make one just like it. Can you answer a few questions? What is the finished measurements of the table? What thickness of plywood did you use?
ReplyDeleteGood job. A good way to use old storage rather than spend a lot of money on a new one with fake wood and sawdust.
