L,M,N--Reclaimed Wood "Marquee" Letters

Maybe it is the elementary teacher in me.  Maybe it is that I am finally catching on to the letter trend. Maybe it is my need to use up bits and pieces of wood, but after making the YUM, (SHOWN HERE) I am totally groovin' on making letters from reclaimed wood.

And yes, I said groovin', after all I was a kid in the seventies when groovin' was groovy.
This week I made an L, M, N.

Why those letters?  Because they are easy to make (general directions HERE) and are common letters for last names.

The L is made from reclaimed oak and is about 2 1/2 feet tall.  I painted it in blues in greens because if it doesn't sell, it may be mine :).

The M is smaller and I kept it white and chippy because I knew the original dark wood stain on the trim I used would look great peeking out from white paint.

The N is in red and is from a chunkier wood.

I may eventually work through, build the whole alphabet, but for now I am happy with my middle letters--L, M, and N.

YUM! How To Make Vintage Inspired Letters

YUM!  A word to make you smile. What food makes you say yum?  A big bowl of pasta?  A ripe peach?  A slice of a decadent chocolate cake?

Whatever it is, after seeing the word YUM on a kitchen wall in an episode of Fixer Upper on HGTV (I seriously love this show--love Joanna Gaines' style), I knew I had to make one.

A Headboard Bench & Why I AM A Junker, NOT A Hoarder

Are you a junker who has been accused of being a hoarder?

I think we junkers all have at one time or another been told we are hoarders.  My children like to throw that word around, albeit as they are tripping over a pile of 35+ picture frames strategically placed on the floor.  Let me define the differences:

A hoarder likes to collect and save things.  A junker likes to collect and save things.

A hoarder sees value in what others see as garbage.  A junker sees value in what others see as garbage.

A hoarder has more "stuff" than she can possibly ever use or need.  A junker may have more "stuff" than she can possibly ever use (I do periodically go through and take some crud, aka treasures to the thrift store or dump).

A hoarder does not want to part with her junk, she stresses out and experiences anxiety if the junk is removed.  A junker is HAPPY to find a use for her junk, happy to create with it and change it and sell it.

Okay, so even though I have been packing this headboard around for 14 years, I finally found a use for it--SEE, I am a JUNKER not a hoarder.

Well...I told you I was starting a new party this week, but due to a little glitch I did.  But, I am excited to show which link party I will be joining!  I along with a few other bloggers will be teaming up with Angie from Knick of Time for the Vintage Inspiration Party that will go live on Monday evenings.  We look forward to seeing anything and all tings that are vintage inspired--a little rust, a little dust, a little paint--anything that is chippy, shabby, vintage looking.

My Imperfect Coffee Sign & Embracing Imperfection

Earlier in the week I shared a blogger's secret about staging pictures.

Today, the confessions continue: bloggers do not have perfect handwriting to perfectly letter signs.  Nope, most of us are just a sloppy mess, including our handwriting.

We use vinyl and stencils to letter signs.  Or, if we really live outside the box we might use the transfer method I shared HERE.  But, in my recent quest to keep it real, keep it authentic I have decided to start doing some hand lettering, free of stencils and transfers.
