Cozy Christmas Skirt

As I mentioned earlier, for the first time I am decorating in white this year.   This means I need new things and I do not have the kind of budget where I can go out and buy all new things.  Honestly, even if I DID have it in my budget, I wouldn't go buy it all.  Aaah, the joys (?) of being a do it yourselfer!  My red tree skirt definitely wasn't going to work.  I spied a vintage, 100% wool blanket at Salvation Army earlier in the week, but Salvation army knows what an all wool blanket is worth. I played the waiting game and was thrilled to find it still there on half price day.  I placed my old tree skirt on top of the blanket for a "pattern".
I cut circles from the blanket and from an old wool sweater and zig-zag stitched these on. Yes, I was too lazy to change to a cream colored thread, but you don't really notice it.
And yes, it could use some ironing, but will soon by covered by gifts.  I love how it came out--cozy, yet like a layer of snow under the tree.
Here is my white tree with the new paper garland I made.  I will leave it this way for a week and then the kids will add the handmade, memory filled ornaments that won't be all in white, but will make me smile nonetheless.

  1. That is beautiful. I love the tree skirt.

I am considering buying another tree, but as of right now, it will just be white, red, an odd shade of green (somewhere between lime and grass), and then all of my spawn's ornaments/handmade ornaments on it.

  8. Love what you have created..........definitely cozy and warm! Your tree is lovely with the all white decor and it will be just as lovely when your children add their ornaments.........then it will be the cozy white memory tree! May you and your loved ones enjoy your beautifully decorated tree and all that Christmas is.......the birthday of our Saviour!
    Merry Christmas!

  10. We've had our tired old white fake tree that I didn't want to use again but saw somewhere that someone had decorated their white tree in turquoise and brown paper bag color lol. It looked awesome so I adapted that to turquoise and gold with a few paper bag snowflakes. While I wouldn't describe mine as 'awesome' it does look nice and I've found a few things around the house to decorate under the tree since we don't have kids at home anymore and none are planning to visit this year so the gifting will be slim. Can't wrap up a bathroom reno too easily! Whatever gifts we do wrap will be in brown paper tied with turquoise ribbon though. Next year is gonna be a green tree!
