How to Build an Easy Peasy Plant Stand

How to Build an Easy Peasy Plant Stand
Anyone else have a citronella plant? I have never seen them before, but found some at our local nursery and decided it would be the perfect addition to my cozy, back porch. It smells divine and will hopefully keep the mosquitos away.

A $1.50 garage sale basket and some leftover porch 2" x 2" spindles came together in about 20 minutes to make an outdoor plant stand for my citronella plant.

The spindles were already painted with outdoor porch paint, which made this project super quick and easy.

I cut four 16" pieces. I measured across the top of the basket and cut a 12" piece and two 5 1/4" pieces (the 12" minus the width of the board 1 1/2" = 10 1/2" divided in half). I pre-drilled the pieces on the ends, countersinking the hole and put them together to make an X. I then attached the X to the 16" pieces about 5" up. (As you might see in the picture, one short piece did crack--I did glue and clamp it).

I lined the basket with weed fabric and replanted the citronella in it.

It adds a lovely bit of green to my back porch. I love sitting next to it because it smells so good and I like the plant elevated in the stand--definitely gives it more of a presence.
