I am working on 5 kajillion projects right now that I can't wait to share with you. Today's Thrifty Thursday project is one of those. It is quick and easy and requires no tools or construction or even paint. Using a great brass tray I showed you last month and a sturdy camp stool, I made a hip, little side table.
I simply cut the canvas seat off of the camping stool, removed the staples that were holding the canvas seat, revived the wood with some Wise Owl Furniture Salve, and wired the brass tray to the wood base.
I used some brass wire from the hardware store and wired the tray in three places on each side, twisting the wire tightly underneath.
I set this side table next to an extra dining chair. I have two that sit on either side of my dining room windows. I am all about creating little seating areas in my indoor and outdoor spaces. I like to think that guests might want to have a seat, read a book, have a spot to sit a drink or cup of hot coffee.
I added a tall candle holder, a glass jar with some shells from a trip to the Oregon coast, and a couple old books I recently purchased from a garage sale for $1 each.
The Knickerbocker Sketches by Washington Irving has an 1896 copyright and is a first edition. It is bound together with string and has felt between the cover and end sheets.
Henry the IV book has a 1917 copyright. It was a school textbook.
I love this tray side table. It has a great, boho feel. I like the wood on the stool base and it is a quick and easy project. In addition, it will be easy to change it up or take it apart in the future if I decide to do something different with the pieces.
Make your own side table with a tray and camping stool--two items that are easily found at thrift stores and garage sales.
