Oh, I do love today's Furniture Flip, even if I had no idea what I was planning until I got started. This vintage piece definitely has a 1960 cabin vibe. It is made from knotty pine, shellacked to a lovely orange hue. It has a bakelite handle. I bought it from the thrift store for $10. It is sturdy and unique and makes a perfect entry table.
I am not sure how this table was used. The side wood pockets are so deep that had they been used for newspapers and magazines, they would have been lost in the pocket bottoms. The table is too tall for a standard nightstand. I decided that the side wood pockets might have been used for umbrellas, canes, and walking sticks. The cut-out on the pockets have an art deco look so that is what I decided to do for a makeover--an updated, art deco, glam, entry way table.

I removed the bakelite handle, and lightly sanded the whole piece. I completely sanded the tabletop and the drawer front because I knew I wanted to stain them. I stained them wth Dark Walnut stain before I painted.
I painted the rest of the table a great, vintage looking green color called Back Nine. I dry brushed antique gold Rub-n-Buff on the wood and on the small connector piece on the handle. You can buy buy Rub-n-Buff HERE. If you get too much in a spot, use some coconut oil to remove it and then reapply the gold with a lighter hand.
To give the table a little more height and a little extra glam, I added gold legs that I purchased from Amazon HERE. These legs are nice and sturdy and really help to update furniture. I did use longer screws than what it came with.
This table works fantastically in an entryway. The side pockets hold umbrellas and canes and walking sticks (or hockey sticks, tennis rackets, etc.). Hold keys and change on top in a small bowl or basket.
There is a place for purses, shoes or boots can rest on the bottom shelf, and the little drawer can hold a wallet or gloves. The fresh color and gold touches were the perfect updates for this furniture flip.
Very pretty! This is such a unique table and I love the green color!
