Island Time

It is that time of year.  March Madness?  No, although I have been enjoying the games. Springtime? No, not in Montana anyhow.  It is show time--as in junk shows.

And show time means island building time for me because they are great sellers.

This island started with a decent, solid pallet.  Hubby cut skinny pieces of other pallet wood to fill in the spaces.  I love the rustic look that came through when I waxed it.  I used Annie Sloan dark wax because it is food safe.

I added legs and a bottom shelf to the pallet top.  Pretty simple construction.

A fun coat of paint for the legs brigtened them up (paint technique HERE),

I had this metal "pocket" that I found at athrift store a few years ago.  It is a great place for cookbooks.

I also had an old school stainless paper towel older for the other end.

I painted a hook and bottle opener silver and added those to the front.

Simple, but fun and versatile--island, potting bench, craft table, outdoor buffet?  Where would use this piece?

  5. Your attention to the little extras is what I think makes this island so great. Bottle opener and cookbook pocket? Genius! And SO practical.

  6. I built one like this last year for myself and love it. The open shelving surprised me, because I didn't think I would like it - but it is my favorite part!
