Pallet Shelf Tutorial

And the building continues for the show this weekend.  Yes, I said this weekend--this is how I roll.  I painted a load of pallet boards yesterday.  I had 6 that were from the same pallet, all very nice pieces of wood and decide they needed to become a shelf.

After the pieces (pluse 2 other narrower pallet boards) were painted on both sides, I built the sides and back.

I attached 1x1's for the shelf brackets on the sides, putting them flush with the back.
I joined the pieces for the back together with 1x1's as well, across the top and bottom.

I then made the shelves.  I had some great boards for shelving.  I added a piece of reclaimed oak across the front to "fancy them up" a bit, usind the air nailer since this was not structural.

I stained all the pieces at this point, much easier than try to get in the nooks and corners after it is assembled.

I screwed the shelves into the brackets, through the top.  I could have used the kregjig through the bottom, but didn't have the patience plus this is pallet wood--not anything high end.  I like the crude construction.

I put the top on, screwing down through the top.  I was going to add a trim board across the top, but didn't.  Now, looking at the pictures, I think I will add it back in, what is your opinion?

**Disclosure:  This aint no Anna White tutorial, i.e., use the measurements that work with the wood you have ;)!

  1. I love this shelving idea. Probably would add the top trim -- personal type choice. Thanks so much for sharing your talents.

  3. Nice! I love how you did the shelves, I have never thought of putting small strips on the in side for the shelves to sit down on. Great idea, don't see the screws. I like the stained shelves with your other colors, and the reclaimed pieces on front of shelves. Thank you for sharing! Pinning!
