5 Projects in a Week, Project 1, Starburst Wreath

If you saw my post Friday, you might have noticed I decided to bring back a little challenge or event that I have done in year's past: creating 5 new projects in one week.

Why am I doing this? First, I hope to inspire YOU.  Each project will feature a tutorial to help jolt your creative bug and hopefully encourage you to try one of the projects. Secondly, I want to challenge and inspire myself to try something new, to get some projects created.  And lastly, it is fun--fun to share, fun to read your comments, there will be giveaway and link party at the end!

The first project is a summer inspired wreath for the front porch.

My daughter and I started cleaning up and redecorating the porch over the weekend, and while it is not quite ready for the complete reveal, I did get the front dooe decor finished.  We are using our new doormat from Target for color/style inspiration.

I started by cutting some reclaimed 1x2's various lengths.  I just took 3 boards and cut them different sizes.  I didn't know how many I meede but when I laid them out, I had the perfect number I needed.  That is when you know a project is meant to be!

I painted them and I painted a rusty paint can lid for a middle.  You could also use a wood plaque from the craft store or a wood plate.

Next came a few fails which I should have photographed, but didn't.  I turned the boards over, placed the lid on the back and started screwing in 1 1/4" screws.  I secured the four main pieces first, the ones that make the + sign.

The drilling/screwing process made the other pieces shift out of place.  So, I tried to temporarily hot glue the boards in place and then flip the starburst over to screw the boards to the lid.  Fail--the glue did not hold.  I ended up holding the pieces in place one by one, flipping the lid over and screwing.

This way I was able to keep the loose circle the boards made in the middle of the starburst.

A D ring secured to one of the boards is the perfect way to hang the wreath on the magnet wreath holder on the door.

This wreath screams sunshine and summer to me--now if the weather will do the same :)!
