This past week I had the pleasure of celebrating my mama's 75th with her and the family.  She is such a great mom and is the one who started me crafting at an early age and gifted me with a do it yourself attitude.  She wanted to float the river on her 75th, so float we did--it was a blast!  I think she gets younger every year.

Eat, Drink, Be Merry

A friend dropped off two great bar stools this past week.  I knew they needed to be red.

They needed something more so to the cricut I went to cut out some vinyl letters to use as stencils.

Aah, just the extra touch they needed.

Funky Little Table

I had no idea what I was making when I started cutting some recently acquired trim wood, but soon decided on a little table.  I made the base first from the trim boards and other free wood from a pallet pile.  I then hunted around for a table top and found an old cupboard door that had been stripped on one side.  I was going to paint the base white and stain the cupboard door when I noticed some fantastic paint colors on the edge of the door.

I started sanding on the other side and found white, red, mauve, yellow, orange, bright green all under the minty aqua color.

I decided a funky side table was in order so I painted the base orange and added the fun cupboard door.

 And how about this brassy candlestick I painted with Annie Sloan chalk paint?

I love

Oh and a fun little suitcase too.

I love letting the unexpected surprise dictate the project--going with the flow works for me.

Sunday Verses

Make It Rustic!

A friend needed a wedding gift for a niece--and I was told to make it rustic with some barbed wire on it.  This is what I came up, and old chippy, peeling mirror I had.  This was some type of cupboard door originally.

I modge podged burlap on the back to peek through the holes in the mirror,

stained the frame dark and added a few hooks,

and a little barbed wire "wreath" at the top.

This isn't my typical style, but fun to do something rustic and different and hopefully the perfect wedding gift.

Refeuling

We are home from vacation--it was a great, relaxing week.  The Oregon Coast is a special place for me.  I am not sure if it is because I was born in Portland--but only lived there until I was 4.  Perhaps it is because we have had many wonderful vacations there--but truly, it recharges and refuels my soul.

This week I must kick butt and I am ready.  I have been selling furniture like crazy, which is great and means I need to get things made for Saturday's Farmer's Market, for Prairie Sister's show in early September, and for my spot at The Antique Barn.  I am also teaching my first Chalk Paint class this week, have family coming to town for my mom's 75th birthday, yadda, yadda, yadda.  Until I get some butt kicking done, thought you mkight enjoy a few photos from our trip.

Sunday Verses

Simple Junk

When you hear decorating with junk do you picture a room filled with rust and crust and chippy paint?  It doesn't have to look like a mini version of the local salvage yard.  You can use bits and pieces of junk to add a unique touch to your home without turning it into Fred Sanford's place.  Case in point this box and picture holder.

The box was a white box found at the thrift store.  I added some Florence chalk paint and a junky "handle" in the form of a spring I had.

I simply added a few screws to attach the spring (excuse the sawdust in the pictures) to the box lid.

And the picture of my dad from the Navy is held up by a door lock casing.
