12 Days of Christmas Day 5 & 6 Stockings and Stocking Hanger

christmas decor ideas from the thrift store
On then fifth and sixth days of Christmas
Beyond the Picket Fence gave to me,
Stockings and a hanger that are delightfully.

Ooh, the rhymes are getting bad. And the days are getting closer to Christmas so I decided to combine two days because there are several thrift store finds in this stocking display.

Ladders are a pretty common find at thrift stores or building reuse places like Habitat for Humanity Restores. This tall one is pretty rickety and past its prime for safety standards, but makes a perfect stocking holder or hanger (which do you call it?).

wrap fairy lights around an old ladder for a stocking hanger

The hardest part was untangling the fairy lights I put away hastily last year (you can find them HERE). This year I will be taking the time to wrap them around a piece of cardboard. Once they were untangled I wrapped them around the ladder sides.
I then hammered in nails for the stockings. I hang my stocking from metal round curtain hangers (similar HERE).
Make one of a kind stockings from thrift store fabric and tablecloths

Oh, and the stockings? They are made from a piece of boiled wool that I picked up from the thrift store.  The stocking toppers or cuffs are all (except the grey pillow ticking) made from thrift store items--old tablecloths, curtains, and a chenille bedspread.

upcycled thrift store Christmas decor
I added fresh pine boughs to the ladder rungs and hung a metal snowflake, that is also from the thrift store. I painted it white and added the glitter.
joy blocks from the thrift store
The JOY blocks are from the thrifts store toy aisle.

The red metal wall vase is also from the thrift store. It was originally yellow.  I painted it red, added the ribbon, and stuffed fresh pine branches and twigs in it. I used a red solo cup inside of it with some water in it to keep the boughs fresh. I think I still need something above it, but haven't decided what yet.

So, what else is from the thrift store you ask? My wall sconces--read about them HERE, you won't believe the deal I got on them!!

The pillow on the garage sale chair is made fro a thrift store curtain, the candle in the Target candle holder is from the thrift store, and my favorite 1940's copy of T'was the Night Before Christmas on the round thrift store table (that I painted) is also from the thrift store.
