Thrifty Thursday Baskets

Thrift Store Finds and Decor
Baskets tend to be a dime a dozen (ok, well more like $24/dozen) at the thrift store. There are plenty of them and I always look at them. I want unique, well-made baskets that will have a place and a purpose in my home.

When I spied these two next to each other at the thrift store and saw that they were in my back porch colors, I knew I could use them for wall decor.

Hubby did ask, "Aren't you about done decorating the back porch?" 😁 Yes, dear, I am. These two baskets were the final touch on the long wall that the loveseat is on.
Basket Plant Shelf
I knew I wanted to add a little shelf for a plant to the larger basket. I used a scrap board in the garage. I angled the back corners or sides so that the shelf would fit better in the round space.
Add a Shelf to a Basket
I used a screw on each side and two across the back. I wrapped wire around the screws and then tightened the screws. I poked the wire through the basket and twisted it to secure the shelf.

I decided to add a little sign to the bright green basket.

Using the Wild Flower Seeds stencil from Funky Junk's Old Sign Stencils (get them HERE), I stenciled the wildflowers on a wood scrap and the little flourish from the stencil. I attached the sign to the basket with a screw and washer from the back.

The baskets definitely finished off this wall and the pops of color against our grey house make me happy.
Back Porch Decor From the Thrift Store
I think I will plant something that trails to put on the basket plant shelf, but for now a little white petunia works.

I am proud of the cozy space I have put together with thrift store and garage sale finds. It is a great entertaining space. A rough guess on cost for the whole space is less than $200, which includes 4 stackable chairs that we bought new a few years ago and a new rug that I bought this year, and the fabric I bought to recover the loveseat cushions and pillows.
